We have been waiting for years for Netflix Australia and finally they’re here. The problem is that the offering from Netflix in Australia isn’t the same content that they make available in the US. There’s no need to let that get you down though because you can watching American Netflix in Australia today with a free trial of the solution from the guys over at Smart DNS Proxy.
The problem with watching Netflix in Australia is that they currently only operate in certain countries and before allowing you to access their website they look at your IP address to see what country you are in. Of course when they see that you’re in Australia instead of welcoming you with open arms they display a sad message saying that Netflix is not available in your country yet. The trick to getting access is to make it appear that you are actually accessing their website from within the USA and to do that you need to have your IP address appear to be an American one.
There are essentially two ways to do this: The first is by using a VPN or Virtual Private Network. This is probably the most talked about solution which is ironic because it’s abolutely the worst choice of the two. VPN’s are typically slow and indiscriminate in the kind of internet traffic they route. Also, as a VPN service provider becomes more popular their service gets slower and slower as they have to handle more and more traffic. Don’t go the VPN route!
The second option, and by far the best one, is to use a DNS proxy to “bounce” off so that you can make your IP address appear to be an American one. Smart DNS Proxy is our favourite solution at the moment. They provide a great service and have really good tech support. If you go to their site you can sign up for a free 14 day trial. The step by step setup procedure is really well documented for any device you are looking to start watching on. Their service will also allow you to access other services such as Hulu, BBC iPlayer, Pandora and a host of other free and paid services that are currently unavailable in Australia.
Once you have signed up with Smart DNS Proxy and changed your network settings as per their instructions you can head on over to Netflix and now you won’t see the obnoxious message denying you access any more but rather and invitation to sign up for their free trial. In order to sign up for the free Netflix trial in Australia you will need to enter an American Zip code when prompted for one during the signup process. You can use any American Zip code and we just normally use “90210” which is the Beverley Hills Zip code. You will also need to enter your credit card that will be debited once the free trial ends. Don’t worry that your credit card has been issued in Australia as it seems that Netflix don’t really care about this aspect. After the free trials expire the cost to continue using their services are about $4.99 for Smart DNS Proxy and about $8.00 for Netflix per month. Still, $13.00 a month to watch some really good content that was never available to you before is pretty good value. So what are you waiting for? Head straight on over to Smart DNS Proxy to start watching American Netflix in Australia right now.
